Playing for Pizza

Playing for Pizza

Yes, we’re talking about that John Grisham; the one who writes legal thrillers. Apparently, he took on a side job and wrote a quirky satire just for us humor fans. In this work he introduces us to Rick Dockery, a failed quarterback for the Cleveland Browns who is desperate to continue playing football for a living after committing “the worst single performance in the history of the NFL.” Dockery finds a safe haven in Parma, Italy (yes, they play football americano there). Grisham creates a charming story as his ungainly and uncultured jock learns to fall in love with Italy (warning: there’s a bit of food porn here; the book will leave you hungry).
