by Andrew Sean Greer
Type of humor: Almost Romance
Nothing makes you face your problems better than running away to escape them, which is exactly what happens in this almost-romance by Greer. As Arthur Less runs around the world just to get out of going to the wedding of his former fiance’, the reader enjoys the foreign sojourn as much as the quips and overall wittiness of the novel. Although Less wrestles with existential angst of realizing he’s half a century old (and still not famous), discovers “what it means to be a fool of your own narrative” as Book Page put it. A delightful, heartfelt, and comedic novel.
